This class is taught by highly experienced 3D designers/supervisors who are currently working in PDS and leading teams of PDS experts for their corporations during the day, and teaching these courses at night.

The content of this course is the same as the course content of the courses taught at Intergraph headquarters. The same lab exercises, textbooks, and software versions are used.

Click on the thumbnail picture to the right to view an expanded version of the courses that Intergraph recommends for a beginning 3D equipment and piping designer to take. The Equipment and Piping courses in the diagram are covered by the two SPED courses. Use your browser back arrows to get back to this page.

This course is intended for the piping designer, who will use PDS 3D to create piping models. The course focuses on the PDS software module for  piping (PD Design).  We recommend that piping group leaders attend this course as well, to understand the system’s capabilities.

Major Topics

  • PDS overview
  • Routing piping centerlines
  • Placing piping and piping components
  • Placing piping assemblies
  • Placing specialty and instrument items
  • Revising and reconstructing models
    • Design Checker

Prerequisite Course Training

Although this course for PDS 3D designers will get a new PDS user started in the PDS environment,  it should not be considered a direct substitute for MicroStation training. It is highly recommended that designers shall have completed a 3D MicroStation course prior to beginning this PDS course.

  • A background in piping is strongly recommended.
  • A basic understanding of Windows and MicroStation is required.  This can be obtained in any of these ways:
    • By attending a Houston Community College System course on MicroStation.
    • By attending Windows-NT/MicroStation Use for PDS 3D Designers (TPDS1103)
    • Via on-the-job experience comparable to the above,
    • By attending vendor classes on Windows NT and MicroStation. Students who do not attend TPDS1103 will be  expected to be familiar with all topics covered in that course.
